When Brad started the company in 2015, his prerogative was to make working in construction something different. He’s built an organization where every voice matters. Where people are excited to come to work and build great things. Where trades and clients are confident that True Mechanical makes a real difference when it’s brought to the table early. Where things get done, they get done right, and everyone’s respected in the process.

Brad Hedblom

A culture of trust, early collaboration, and mutual success.

Brad understands what it’s like working the job from the ground up with a crew, hence his intense dedication to teamwork and quality craftsmanship. Before his time at True Mechanical, he started on the tools twenty years ago, working his way up the ladder from apprentice to managing director at Daryl-Evans Mechanical. He has his Red Seal Certification in Plumbing, Class B Gas Certification, Gold Seal Certification in Project Management, and an Estimation Certificate.

Lee Zirk

Principal

Lee joined the company in 2015 as a project and business development manager. He now runs the residential and commercial divisions while providing engineering support and business development. Given his involvement in projects from budget to occupancy, Lee has his fingers on the pulse and knows the business inside-out. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buffalo, with a P.Eng designation through EGBC, and Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from PMI.

Lee Zirk

I grew up in the mechanical industry, and I love it.

Lee's entire family is in the mechanical industry. So, coming from an environment of plumbers, pipefitters, sheet metal technicians and more, the industry was a natural fit for him. He started work with his Dad in the pipe fitting industry in 2003, where he learned about the importance of establishing great relationships in the industry. Lee later started True Mechanical with the main objective to continue the spirit of collaboration.

Rafal Choroba

Principal

Rafal started at Broadway Refrigeration and Air Conditioning as a TSR in 2007 and partnered with Brad Hedblom in 2015 to co-found the company. He now works in business development, risk mitigation, contract negotiation, mentoring project coordinators and managers, special projects and estimating divisions, and drives innovation, business development and procurement strategies. Before joining the company, he was a Financial Auditor for Health Canada. Rafal has a Degree of Technology in Corporate Accounting and Third-Class Power Engineering from BCIT.

Working at True Mechanical is fast, collaborative, exciting and fun.

Rafal sees the industry moving towards a collaborative approach where the mechanical contractor is not only responsible for integrating a system into a building, but is involved in the building design and mechanical design. This would ensure that the system is functional and effective, clients’ budgets are met, and the system is energy efficient and carbon neutral. The most exciting part of his job is the constant need to adapt to projects, client needs, and market conditions.

Chris Hahn

Senior Project Manager

A Red Seal certified plumber with almost twenty years of experience, Chris’s positive attitude and knack for problem-solving make him an ideal complement to True Mechanical’s team. Since joining the company, he has managed several complex projects across the Lower Mainland and uses his plumbing background to create canning and piping plans for residential and industrial projects of all sizes. He also successfully implemented robotic total stations as a staple for slab layouts.

Leia Hoot

VDC Designer

Leia’s passion for solving constructability issues before they arise on site makes her a natural fit at True Mechanical. As a VDC Designer, she is responsible for 3D modelling and coordinating mechanical systems in Revit. Leia enjoys the challenges that each project presents and the opportunity to work with a diverse group of people. She has a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria and is a registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT).

Dave Dudka

Director of Field Operations

Dave brings decades of experience in the plumbing and new residential construction industries. He has his Plumbing Red Seal, Class-A Gas Fitter Certification, and a Gold Seal Certification in Project Management. Since starting with the company in 2016, Dave has worked his way up from Project Manager to Director. His favourite part of the job is working with like-minded people who want to see each other succeed, and he's passionate about teaching and helping others.

Adam Chitticks

Senior Foreman

With 15 years of experience in the mechanical systems industry, Adam brings a high degree of knowledge and skill to the job. Adam joined the company in 2015 and worked his way up to the Senior Foreman level, where he’s focused on delivering quality to every project he works on. He appreciates the freedom and flexibility at True Mechanical and enjoys the relationships he builds with trades and clients along the way.

Gary Martin

Senior Project Manager

Gary has nearly 40 years of combined experience in construction, with experience managing an extensive range of projects of varying size and complexity. He joined the company in 2017 as a project manager for institutional projects, and given his valuable expertise and attention to detail, he was relocated to the Special Projects Group in 2019. He is a loyal employee who values his relationships with clients and coworkers.

Dustin Morris

Project Manager, Estimator

Dustin has ten years of experience in the mechanical trade in commercial and institutional sectors. He worked his way up from a tradesman to project manager and applies his unique perspective of having worked in the field and office to estimation and procurement. Dustin has been with the company since 2020 and enjoys the working environment at True Mechanical. He also thrives on the complexity and daily challenges of working in the mechanical industry.

John Shaw

Director of Field Operations & HVAC-R

John is a Red Seal certified journeyman with an interprovincial ticket in Refrigeration. With nearly 20 years of experience at the company, he has delivered mechanical systems for various commercial and industrial buildings. Technically adept and a natural leader who is comfortable working on multi-million-dollar projects, John was promoted to lead field operations for HVAC-R installations and has been the Director of Field Operations since 2009.

Boys & Girls Club of BC

For over 85 years, BGC has been giving children and youth what they deserve: a place to belong when they aren’t at home or in school. We are happy to be a small part of the initiative with a donation.

Festival of Trees

This year we sponsored a tree in support of the BC Children's Hospital Foundation for Cancer Research. Our team of elves designed the tree. Last year we won first prize so the heat was on!

Wildfire Relief

BC Wildfire Relief Charity

British Columbia is experiencing its worst wildfire season in recorded history, and the impact has been disastrous. Since April, over 1,000 wildfires and three million acres of land have been burned, displacing thousands of residents, with more than 3,500 residents on evacuation alerts.

Community Involvement

Local Business Lunch Program

We supported local businesses during the pandemic by providing over 2,500 paid lunches to our staff. Many small neighbourhood food-based businesses faced tough times with virtually no patrons, and we were beyond proud to help boost their traffic.

Anmore Friendly Forest Preschool

We donated and installed a handwashing station, complete with a high-end triple basin acrylic lavatory with auto facets and mixing valves, to help kids return to Anmore’s Friendly Forest Preschool safely during COVID-19.

Aboriginal Community Career Employment Services Society (ACCESS)

To support meaningful careers in skilled trades for the urban Indigenous community, we provided an in-kind contribution to ACCESS worth $122,500 in training, mentorship and paid work experience for five apprentices.

Fort McMurray Forest Fire Relief

Many of us had family, friends, and colleagues who were impacted by devastating Fort McMurray fires, so we raised over $10,000 for the basic necessities and support required to aid in the extensive relief effort.

Movember

In collaboration with our employees and partners, we’ve raised over $50,000 for Movember since 2015. These events have drawn more than 1,000 attendees, which has also helped us raise awareness for men’s health issues.

Champion of the Crescent

Since 2016, we've either participated in or donated to the Surrey Hospitals Foundation stand-up paddle board team event to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health programs. Watch for our team this year!
